"According
to experimental psychology, is the sense of touch that puts us in
contact with reality through the notions of solidity, structure
and weight, whereas sight -visual perception- connects us with the
immaterial through colour and light. Thus, visual perception has
been related to the intellect, the spirit and imagination, leaving
touch to earthlier and less spiritual concerns. This may be why
it is said that the eyes are the mirrors of the soul. And that vision
is not a mechanical record of elements but the perception of emotionally
and culturally meaningful structural schemes.
Since
last century, a formalistic theory of art has been voiced by many,
emphasizing the fact that certain art works have been created especially
for lingering contemplation, like a sort of visual delicacy... It
is precisely the case of Octavio Ocampo's artwork because are an
invitation to oculophilia, i.e. an incitation to love merely
by seeing them..."
